Covid in Wales: How many deaths have there been?

Another 41 people have died with coronavirus in Wales, taking the total to 2,446, according to latest figures.

Public Health Wales data also showed 907 more people have tested positive for Covid-19, making a total of 74,735.

Of the new deaths, 15 were in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg health board area, which covers Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf.

There were 10 deaths in the Swansea Bay area, eight in Cardiff and Vale, and six in the Betsi Cadwaladr area.

The area of Wales with the highest seven-day case rate is still Blaenau Gwent, where 415.1 in every 100,000 of the population have tested positive for the virus.

Recent comparable figures across the UK show Blaenau Gwent the 11th highest - and the fastest rising.

That is followed by Torfaen (315), Neath-Port Talbot (287.5) and Newport (283.2).

The areas with the lowest case rates in Wales are Gwynedd (24.1), Conwy (29) and Anglesey at 31.4.

There have been a total of 1,426,797 tests conducted since the start of the outbreak in Wales.

Of the 904,639 people tested, 829,904 tested negative. There were 8,917 tests carried out on Monday.

What is happening in Torfaen?
Case rates have stabilised in most parts of the south Wales valleys, however Torfaen has seen its rate rise to 315 per 100,000 over the last week.

It also has a positivity rate of 19.8% - the highest in Wales.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the positivity proportion of tests should be no more than 5% before areas come out of restrictions.

Torfaen's rise has been attributed to 50 cases at a local care home in the last fortnight, while positive cases in care homes have trebled in the county over the last month.

Three areas - Abersychan, Trevethin and Pontypool - are currently in the top 20 highest case rates in Wales, broken down at a localised level.

The proportion of positive results in Wales on average is 12.1% of all tests - the lowest figure for more than a month.
